R.I.P. Herkie - Marine Aquariums of South Africa

This is a stark reminder that water and electricity don't mix. His wife found him with his arm still in the sump. The earth leak did trip but it was too late.

 

Whaaaat! This is so sad and is you huge wake up call to all hobbiest including me! RIP HERKIE!!!! I didnt know you personally, but have come across a few of your posts.... Always so sad when something like this happens so close to home...

 

Condolences to his family and friends, sad to hear about a loss of life in such a way. Will intercede in prayer for those who stay behind with such great sadness and a great loss.

 

my condolences to the berieved. this is quite sad , and to know that i get irritated with my Mom for always asking me to disconnect all wall plugs when doing maintenance. time to take her seriously.

Oh no! That's terrible news! So sad. Condolences to friends and family.

 

Not to make light of this sad event.... I have had more than a few bad shocks over the years... Nastiest one happened almost 10 years ago - Woman walked into shop,fish in bucket: "Please can you take this from me? Its eating all my fish"

So I look inside and said fish is hiding under a big piece of driftwood... In goes my hand ...and WHAMMO!!! I get to lying on the floor,seeing bright flashy lights and a arm that twitched like an epilectic.... she neglected to tell me it was a Electrical catfish that her kids caught on a fishing trip.... I was to shocked(pun intended) to ask her how the bloody heck she got in in the bucket....

 

Condolences to the loved ones left behind. Rest in Peace my fellow fish keeper.

Condolences to the remaining family members... I know what it is like to lose a dad...:cry:

I suppose that he went out doing something he loved, not that it is very comforting to those left behind.

 

Wow this was not expected. Mixing water and electrical equipment is never a good idea even if it is in your aquarium.

Will take special care going forward.

A very Very VERY BAD reminder to all of us to turn off and PLUG OUT ALL lights and other electrical appliances that can fall into the water as you are working in the tank... Condolences to the family.

Indeed very sad and tho I dont know him personally but one thing we all have in common is, keeping fish / love of this hobby
Its a very bad example but this will bring us to mind to keep out stuff as safe as possible for humans and fish
irraspective of make or brand and the DIY's
