Hi so the 3m tank i bought was moved today , and now that the tank is empty i realise how much work i have to do .

the silonce seems to be sweating in places and will have to be stripped and replaced in some places .

the top need to be stripped completely , so that sliders can be out on.

tanks need a good clean up.

please look at the pics below and let me know whta you think.

the tank cost me 2000 rand complate with two c1600 filters , stand and cabinet.

whats my best way forward , do you guys know of anyone that can assess the tank and advise the way forward .

i am definately keeping the tank, but i have my work cut out for me.

the tank was not leaking , but i think while its empty i should do as much to it as i can .

i can already picture it onces its all done .

@Enver, I would give it a thorough clean first. Then assess it from there. You might want to think of a polish while you are at it. Re sealing that size tank will be risky if you don't know what you are doing. My advice will be to have it done by a professional. You will be quite ticked off if all your hard work doesn't pay off because of a leak. Shouldn't cost too much seeing that everything is in place. Good price by the way! R2000 wouldn't even buy the tank alone.

In the end all that hard work is going to pay off big time. I am really jealous of you bro, firstly you got a tank that size for next to nothing with 2 c-1600's. Well worth all the extra effort in my opinion.

I'm going to have to agree with slomo, if you get a pro to do the reseal and even though he might charge you a bit extra it would be way better than gettin all excited and filling up that bad boy for nothing.

    hi guys thanks

i am going to strip and clean the tank this weekend ,but only going strip the top of the tank, i am not going to touch any joints in case i damage it more .

do you know of anyone that will be willing to reseal on site, because i would rather not move that tank again.

also how do i polish the glass .

i am going to update progress as i go along on this thread .

Hi @Enver, You can contact any glass company for info on the polishing. Are the panels heavily scratched? Glass polishing generally cost quite a bit. So shop around for prices first. It will help in the overall look of the tank. For the sealing you can get in contact with any LFS in your area and ask about someone who builds tanks. You are unfortunately far from my area, so I can't give you a contact from my area. I am sure there is someone on the site who can assist you with this. I know @trevor1971 builds tanks. Maybe you can get hold of him.

As for the on site job. I am sure you will get someone to do the job at your house. Some costs involved of course. HTH

If I look at the condition of the silicone I would suggest you remove and replace all the extra silicone. Do it now that the tank is empty rather than having to drain a year or two down the road. Just cut out the extra put into the corners and reseal. I have found that the only silicone I can rely on is Bostik Marine. Use a stanley knife to remove the bulk then the plain blades to scrape away what is left.
Check you edges for chips and use a sand paper, belt sander unit, to sand done to get rid of the tiny "V" portion.

Reseal reseal reseal. All i have to say. You dont want all that water on the floor after setting up. Moved my 5ft 3 x while moving from place to place & it finally gave in this year after 6 years. All 300L on the wooden floor. not a pretty sight

    hi guys

need some advise , i have already contacted a tank maker to reseal the tank and just waiting for him to get back to me .

i have a another problem that maybe you guys can help me with , please see the pic below. i dont like where the braces have been placed as well as how its made up, basically they used a few thinner sheets of glass glued together .

also with the braces placed where they are , my sliders will have to sit on top of them, meaning i lose alot of the tank space .

do you think it is safe removing the braces and then reinstalling them higher up, it should not affect the tank when i remove them , but rather safe than sorry .

i will get a proffesional to put them back, but will it be safe removing them my self ?

Move them. Won't affect the tank when empty. Nothing wrong with the pieces glued together for the bracing. You can re use them.

They aren't necessary. I suspect the builder put them there to keep the braces in place while the Silicone dried.

Not the usual way they fit the bracing, but it must have worked. Is there any bracing on the bottom?

not sure if it is bracing there is a thin strip running on both the lenght and the width but its very thin for bracing IMO but will let the tank builder advise when he comes to reseal the tank.
