    Hi Guys

I set up a 4 foot tank on tuesday this week and used a sponge filter from my fry tank in there, i was feeding the fry tetra bits and the sponge filter somehow has absorbed the red colour from the bits. so my question is will this be harmful to the fish ? i tested the water lastnight and all parameters are clear but the water is a light pinkish colour.

    Thanks

I used to have small pieces of foam, to block holes in breeding age, after a while they also turned a slight pink.
We have also bought compost activator (naerobic bacteria) that you mix mix with lukewarm water and the water was also a pinkish colour.

So I wonder if it is possible that it is bacteria. How much do you feed, do they eat all the food?

I doubt that the colour will be harmfull so if there are no food particles left over it should be ok... Doing a 50% WC with fry? Be carefull... Don't know what fry but I have killed very hardy (and very expensive!) fry with a 50% wc only a month ago....

the tank is just running there's no fish in it yet hoping to add some on friday. there's no food or anything in the tank just the sponge filters and the heater and a submersible pump with crushed coral and filter media.

Could be the food you added, or a bacterial bloom with a pink/yellow light above the tank?
