The photo was taken a day before the fish died. A few weeks ago it had white spots(lumps) on it's body.
Medication in the tank got rid of this, but it started hiding away and not mixing with the other fish.
On odd occasions it would appear and seemed normal. I then found it lying on it's side but it woke up when I disturbed it. It again started mixing with the other fish until the other day when it was lying upside down.
I put it in a hospital tank with Epson salts and put gensin violet on some reddish marks on it's body, but
it died overnight. Can anyone suggest what the problem could have been?

    Hi
    What medication did you use?
There is quite a few answers we need before we can even begin to suggest what might have led to it's demise.
Tank size, tank mates, feeding regime, water parameters just to name a few.

    Sorry for your loss.

It looks like it might be a "dyed \ artifically coloured" fish and might have gotten a infection, hence the white spots(lumps).

For the upside down sympton: Perhaps the fish might have gotten a problem with its swim bladder organ. (Just a guess)

Could be anything. In case of a parrot fish (genetically engineered), it could have died of organ failure.

The medication I added to the tank was "Aquapharm" to "treat protozoan infections, costia, chilodonella, trichodina, ichthyophthirius, fungal infections, bacteria infections, skin and gill flukes"
Tank is 600 litres, with four layers filter material.
Over the years I have had a Black Ghost, Elephant Nose, Spiny Eel, cyclids etc etc.
All my fish grow big over the years then die.
My fish feed on ox heart and peas.
Can someone suggest a type of water test kit I can buy to detect possible water problems before it's too late?

i have 5 parrot fish, they did get white spot, i treated with salt, white spot went, then they developed white sort of mold looking fluff on each side of their mouth, treated with salt and a local antibiotic. Went away, except 1 still appears to have a small white part in the same place, but when looking in most shops many parrot fish have a similar light white spots near their mouth, so im not stressed about it.

Back onto topic.....when treating my tank (only parrot fish), i put in too much medication, as a result of this i observed 1 of my parrot's lying on it's side, only when i disturbed him, he swam off into the blue. I then did a 25% water change asap to dilute the amount of medication in the tank, and that was that...Problem solved.

Long story short...you might have overdosed your tank by accident, sure...you might have followed the instructions, but maybe your fish were to sensitive to that type of medication.

My advice....do a water change (atleast 25%) to cater for any problems you may have caused prior to this (please note this is just my advice going on what you have stated here, i do not know the current condition of your other fish so i wouldnt be able to say for sure the exact treatment).

I have 2 parrot fish in 1 tank only . My smaller which I would like to think is the female always lies upside down. She's been doing this for over a year now and seems healthy and happy. She will swim around as per usual, but her "resting" or still position is upside down. So not sure if your fish lying upside down was a sign of illness?

In my case, I think one can safely say that it lay upside down due to illness as it died during the night.
