I took a picture of this weird fish in Jeffrey's Bay. The guy said it had been in his tank since December and nobody could identify it, Im sure somebody here on TASA will have the answer. He supposedly found it in a drainage ditch or something out of the ordinary, on his farm.

Can get it down to Sub family: Gobiinae... but never seen this species before... Not in great condition... It may be brackish(strongly suspect it is) or not getting enough meaty foods...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gobiinae - If you just look at all the Genera in this already Subfamily,it's going to be real hard to identify...

Books guys, good old-fashioned books is where you find the information, I keep on saying this and then I hear Google and Wikipedia.

"A Complete Guide to the Freshwater Fishes of Southern Africa" bu no- one else that a person from the eastern Cape, Prof Paul Skelton indicates a number of gobies occur in the Eastern Cape and from what I see this may be the Checked Goby or Blokkies-dikkop, Redigobius dewaalii. It has been found as far south as Knysna.

    Your local CD rom,

    Dirk
