    Hey everyone,
I heard that round fishtanks or bowls are bad because they stress the fish out somehow? Is this possible?

I can't answer if it does or doesn't.... pretty sure a large enough round tank will be ok... BUT fishbowls imo is consider animal cruelty. I believe they are actually banned in the EU? Is this true?

Fish Bowls are just sad, poor fish, I don't see how a round tank will be any different from a square one. Just as long as you have everything they need they shouldn't get stressed. If a fish is stressed, the majority of the time it has a lot to do with water quality, lighting, and other fish that may be territorial. Not generally beacause of the shape of your tank, the size however would get them stressed if it be too small.

i believe if the water volume it sufficient, coz these do come in a large variety of sizes and for only specific type's of fish, i.e 1 betta (siamese fighter),or a few guppies, or a few white cloud mountain minnows to name a few, with proper frequent water changes, it could work, seeing as fish bowls are designed to have maximum surface area exposed for oxygenation of the water. also only fish that do not neccessarily require heaters, this might also depend on what climate youre in.

i would however suggest adding some form of aquatic plants to such a setup, to assist in dealing with ammonia, nitrites and nitrates and with creating oxygen.
for other types of fish, yes it would stress them out.

little boy brought a 13 cm rainbow shark into lfs last week sunday.. he donated it to lfs, he said the fish was removed from a large community tank (probably was causing trouble with incompatible tankmates) and was in this 20cm fish bowl for 2 weeks with no water changes... poor fish was so tressed out i dont know if he's gonna survive.. i couldnt rescue him coz i only have one tank that can house a rainbow shark, and that one already has an albino rainbow shark in it.

the poor fish was totally grey, almost transparent, very sluggish, i still dont know if he'll make it, these fish can be tough to a degree... when i checked in again 4 days later he was still alive, but i dont know if he'll survive this..

seeing this just made me so angry..

Yeah thats what I thought, I just heard that apparently the curvature of the round tank magnifies people that come look at the tank and thats what scares them but this doesn't make sense to me from a Physics point of view.
But thanks for the info, and I agree about fish bowls being cruel.
