Do any of the local airlines allow the transport of live fish on a domestic flight?

I have done it threw Berco. Durban to george. They organized the airlines. I know that SA Cargo also allows it.

Just phone the airlines and they shall direct you to Sa Cargo or the other one i cant recall now.

I've done it a few times. Actually pretty easy.
Basically you just go to the airport cargo area and find sa cargo/express air, tell them you want to send these fish to ct/jhb/wherever and they put it on almost the next flight. At the other side the other person just goes to cargo as well and collects there. Also did this with our cat once...

THAT we did...a looong time ago...hehe
I must say there seems to be a load of paperwork which gets ignored by certain airlines..inconsistently, though.
Basically a declaration of content, quantity, species, legality

Another thing...we have PROVINCIAL NATURE CONSERVATION OFFICES in every province...there is a transport permit required as well.
It applies to all of us...but very few people bother to apply for them.
That part of legislation is being heightened, slowly but surely, as they attend to various other matters.
Consider it an interprovincial "import" permit...with it's counterpart "export" document set .

    @Asgar
    ..Another scenario
It just struck me NOW, you don't mean as carry-on luggage or checked-in baggage, do you?

This is exactly wat it is. I transport live game animals 2 or 3 times a year to our farm and we MUST get those import and export permits otherwise the seller is not allowed to release the animals from the bomas.

Shot! That helps - however I was referring to 'carry-on' luggage as in a domestic flight eg SAA or kulula.

hmm probably not that relevant but what is the max liquid volume that you are allowed to take on as carry-on for local? I know this is not practical under TSA regulation but not sure about local.

    Hi

I have done it on kulula from jhb to cape town. When i stayed in jhb i send a female kribensis for my father. Put the fish in a plastic bag and the in a small cooler bag that you can carry as hand luggage. She went through check in with no problems although its -+ 5 years back

    Guys, guys, guys,

I fly all over SA regularly and have transported fishes with me from Pontius to Pilot.

Firstly, if you have a full box of fishes with you and you go the terminal to hand in your luggage and you want to submit the container as your personal luggage but containing fishes then according to IATA regulations this will not be allowed. Fishes are livestock and have to be submitted as transported live animals. You need to go to the cargo terminal and submit the box/fishes there. However, if you hand in your luggage and call them water samples then this is permissable, you decide? Additionally you can bring a small bag or two of fishes in a plastic bag on board as hand luggage and this will be permitted on local flights, but obviously not on international flights where liquids are not allowed.

Then I just want to clarify that the scanners at the airport for luggage are perfectly fine for livestock, they are far less of a hazard than they were 10 years ago.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

Just make sure when you pack your fish not to inflate the bag too tight. The air pressure changes inside the cabin as well as between coastal and inland areas so the bag can burst if inflated too much.
