TOTM comp rule revision?

Just want to get everyones opinion on this.

Can the TOTM rules be changed? Tank of The Month competition rules:

If so, can we please omit rule 9 and rule 10?

Rule 9 - The 'Tank of the Month' winner may not submit an entry, or be nominated for entry, for at least the next two competitions. For example,the winner of the September TOTM may not enter or be entered into the October or November competitions.

Reason to be omitted or revised is as follows
- If this is supposed to be a competition, then let it be a competition. best wins.. not no. 2... e.g. if you win the lottery once, are you not allowed to enter again? seems stupid (no offence to the person that wrote the rule)
- You are show casing Tank Of The Month... If a Tank is beautiful, the set-up, etc. then it deserves to be TOTM. TASA is not BBBEEE is it? Why can't the best tank win? why must it be based on, "let everyone have a chance at winning"? If you have an awesome tank, then showcase it, the people will decide anyways. But it shouldnt be limited to the person that is entering..
- People will up their game! be more creative, etc.. without competition, there would be no innovation.
- Maybe even at a later stage, TASA could get sponsors to sponsor TOTM. You would get more entries (not like now.. 4 or 5 max..) therefore more people participating.


Rule 10 - Any attempt to influence competition results, other than by casting your allocated vote, is not permitted and may result in your entry being removed and / or further action being taken.

Reason for revision / omission of this clause is a follows:-
-I feel that this will bring TOTM to a new light. Promote your tank, your pride and joy.. and if people like it, they will vote for it.
- Do rugby fans sit quietly watching their team? no... there isn't be any difference.
- People will be much more involved in the TOTM.

 

Nowthis is the correct way for rules to be questioned. With both a proposal and reasoning. Only problem I see Chongkie is that a person can win over and over again thereby taking the "fun" out of it annd new ppl assuming that they dont stand a chance of winning. However the catch 22 is that it may encourage guys who havent won to "up" their game.

Each of the rules implemented in all the competitions were included after much deliberation and after many years of experience with different kinds of problems encountered.... Thanks for your suggestions and interest .... Even if the competitions are "Just for fun" ... a showcase for your wares..... You'll be surprised at what measures members will go to to win the competitions.... lol... we actually had one school kid who had his whole class join the forum for at least one month ... so that they can vote for his tank.... and... he also pm'd every member on the forum to vote for his tank.... Just believe me when I say... every rule is implemented for a reason.....

 

Yeah, that is the whole point. Do you think Usain Bolt's rivals are all liek.. na.. lets not try harder. I'll bet they up their game big time! That is if you want to win.

I doubt the same person will win for a whole year! hehe. if they do, Damn son! Skills!

 

I think the chamges are reasonable. Maybe just add a provision that any given tank are only allowed to win once?

 

Rule 10, @chonkie , I agree 100% with you.
Rule 9 though, I think should be amended.
What if you have more than one tank? You should be able to Post one tank in the one month and the second in the next month. It makes sense, does it?

 

I fully understand that each rule is implemented with the correct intentions, and ofcourse there are people that will abuse the system. But at the end of the day, if people PM me to cast a vote on their tank because of X & Y, then they shouldn't even think of winning or getting a vote from me.

I believe also that you as moderators can see who is casting what vote and for who / which tank. It is in my opinion that if you see that there are people abusing the system, then Rule 8 and 11 will apply.

Tanks, are quite straight forward in judging. so if someone has a rock with a guppy and a oscar in it, and he/she is getting the most votes... there is something wrong with that.
@Cheetah, can it be considered or is it totally out of the question?

 

Yes, i feel that will be fair. Ofcourse you cannot enter 10 of your tanks in 1 month.. hehe. But that is up to the mods to decide anyways.

 

I would just like to add a suggestion here. I'm not sure about the other members but I often look at some of the high tech planted tanks and feel very miffed and don't want to enter. Perhaps we could have two categories? One for high tech and another for the rest?

Seconded Ferrari's do not compare to tata indicas. I also think that there should be a category for hard scaped only tanks.


Thus turning it into a fair competition divided into eg:


TOTM Hardscaped

TOTM High tech planted

TOTM Low tech planted


In my humble opinion this will encourage fair competition and more entries.

 

I dont quite agree. TOTM is TOTM... shouldn't be divided. If a high tech tank looks good one month , and a pure hardscaped tank the next it will just be up to the people of the forum to vote.

A tank is a tank is a tank, no matter if planted or not, high tech low tech. Its always just a matter of opinion and taste.
@SterlingAce, why you feel miffed about others high tech?

 

Rule 9 can be amended so that one person can submit a different tank each month. Rule 10 should stay as is as @Cheetah said that people will go to great lengths to win, even get your "brother from another mother" to vote for a tank.
Eish! Here we go again about hi vs low. It is just impossible to determine what is low and what is hi. Substrate, ferts, Co2, lights and the list is endless. Not worth the effort to separate the cheaters from honest people.

 

Maybe I'm just jealous of those gorgeous tanks.

I will be prepared to negotiate changes to rule no. 9.... to the effect that the rule will apply to the owner's winning tank exclusively... but... he/she will be allowed to enter another tank for the next month.... but not more than one tank per competition month... (otherwise he would be competing against himself)..... but... rule no. 10 will remain unchanged.......

 

How about once a tank has won it gets entered into tank of the year and that particular tank may not be entered into any other month. That way a person can enter each tank he/she owns as often as they like until they win a month. It wont stop them from entering a different tank for the following month. And maybe the tank of the year can have a sponsored prize making the TOTM a qualifying round?

 

@Cheetah, Thanks for considering the change. Sounds fair that it should be 1 tank per person per month.
@TheGrissom, I agree with the TOTM, and TOTY I think has to have a different approach. It will be like a overall winner so I feel that anyone can enter. Because it might be that some amazing tanks have not entered for TOTM. It will be slightly unfair if you need to win TOTM to be able to win the TOTY. Also another thing, if 1 person wins TOTM for more than 1 month, they will have more chance of winning the TOTY. Same should apply for TOTY. One tank per person.
