This looks like red spot disease on the Arowana. You need to get hold of an Arowana expert fast. If it is red spot you need to get medicine fast or he will die. Strong Aquarium salt solution could help if he is bathed in it. Ensure that thers is enough oxygen in the water. As for the Pengatious it looks like White spot. I am more concerned about your friends aquarium conditions here. This happens in poor conditions or stressed fish. Diseased feeder fish could also be the cause. Get help dude. Fast!

As far as I know, pangasius are pretty tough, so I would also want to know about the water parameters.

It's not contagious. But it is deadly. What other fish are in their tank? If any, it would be best to remove the infected fish into a hospital tank. Does he feed them feeder fish?

It happens like this. Fish have a mucus layer on their skin. When they get stressed or sick they can lose this layer. This is where the fungus infection can take hold. Feeder fish are big contributors to diseases. Same goes for stressed fish. Mucus layer dissapears and fungal disease can step in. So if the other fish in the tank are not sick/stressed they should be fine. But I wouldn't take chances. Red spot are more commonly found on Arowana's. That is why I think it is Red spot. If you look closely at the scales behind the black discoloring, you can see the red scales. Looks like swelling also. This is another sign of red spot. I hope I am wrong.

Must agree there .get the aro out and into hospital tank fast I've never seen this on my guys but on the Malaysian Arowana forum they go as far as a blacked out tank with plenty oxygen to cut stress when medicating .I will look for the links during the day .that's a a great looking aro and will be shame to loose it What type of filtration does he have running ? and what water change regime does he go on . temperature ?
