As far as I can tell by the pic it looks like the fish in the back is a texan cichlid but I could be wrong.... pic is a bit far

 

just did a 250lt water change which i treated with Marltons Anti Ick.

If you have upped the temp to 30 - 32deg, then water changes should not be neccessary

The reason being that simply put ick cannot propogate at those tempratures. It also speeds up the life cycle, as well as breaks it.


I actually stopped using meds against Ick, and have not lost any since. A lot of imported fish are heavily does, and just like us with antibiotics, they build up resistance.
I use salt and temp, but did not have any scaless fish at the time.


The real question is why did your dollar get ick?

Ick is a symptom of stress

Dollars are really skittish, and prefer schools of 4 or more.

Something is giving the guy a hard time.

You may very well reslove your ick now, but there is no guarantee it wont come back.

Good news. No traces of ick. Temps droped back to 26-27.

Bought some new goodies for my tank last Wednesday. Here is what my tank currently looks like. Also bought 2 pieces of driftwood which is currently soaking in a bucket.

 

It looks great slayer! Why aren't you making use of real plants in there slayer? Sorry if you've covered this quetsion but heck, I don't have time to go through 46 posts at the moment

 

In short I know nothing when it comes to plants.

Just put in plants that look good - I do the tank same way I do a garden - Put a plant in, if it survives, keep it - if not replace it.

 

We all have to learn some time.....

Sorry slayer didn't mean to get everyone started What I know about plants is not much either believe me! Hey, stick it in the tank and see if they survive, perhaps add some of the hardier plants to your tank slowly - it'll only benefit the water conditions. The tank still looks great the way it is and once the driftwood goes in, it'll look totally awesome!

My heating in my tank is 1 300wt and 2 150wt resun heaters. I want to replace the 2 150wt with a single 300. Can any1 advise on a good heater

 

Jager, its really stable, its reliable, has a good rep, 3year warranty if i'm not mistaken, and the design looks good too

 

Thanks buddy. Had a look at a Jager on saturday but its a bit 2 long. Does any1 know if the Jager heaters come in shorter lengths. Or am I stuck with resun. I'm looking for a 300wt heater with a water min water level of 45cm,

 

i put mine in horisontally, almost 5cm from the tank bottom, back panel, and have a little 600l/h pump circulating water over it

 

Slayer Boyu does a short 300W - think it ships with the 550 tank - have seen some in LFS also. Let me go dig ..

The one you can buy in the shops is the BOYU HT-2300 it has a total length of 35 cm ..
