I would buy a few shrimp purely for setting up CO2 levels. Aside from all the above mentioned benefits, they are by far the best indicator you can have to ensure your CO2 levels are what they should be.

They are far more sensitive than fish with regards to high CO2 levels. The idea is to push your CO2 as high as possible without causing danger to your livestock. Then you know CO2 is not limiting growth in the tank. When it hits around 35ppm the shrimp go crazy and they try to leave the tank and some of them just act like they are drunk. Most fish can still tolerate that level. So then you drop the CO2 down a notch and now you know for sure that you have real 30ppm of CO2, not some estimate based on tables or drop checkers. On this topic, I recently read an interesting thread on another forum regarding the varying CO2 levels in a tank. I know it is off topic, but it is interesting. Near the diffuser it varied from 40ppm to 100ppm, while at the surface it was 25ppm. Elsewhere in the tank levels varied from 20ppm to 40ppm. This was measured with a $2000 piece of equipment, no doubt none of us would be able to afford this luxury.

What do you put in a crayfish tank? All the people that I know of locally and internationally that have them can't keep anything else in the tank, not even plants.

Drain cleaner would be a good start:p seriously though, those things are terrible you should destroy them! their destructive predisposition is nothing compared to their skill at escaping and becoming ecological disasters..

What no, they use are breather bags and juvenile shrimp(they travel better) besides with the more specialized suppliers they often guarantee live arrival..
