should I?

Hi all

A friend of mine has a boyu 90l tank with stand for sale. its running as a marine tank with 2 clowns and 2 other fish. what is it worth and should i buy it? it has built in light, filter and heater. he says all i need to add is a protein skimmer. what does that cost? i dont really want it but my better half is dying for clown fish. she insists she wants "nemo fish" no matter what lol. so do i buy it or not? i know i should be asking this on MASA but I dont wanna go there. all help and advice is greatly appreciated

 

Skimmer will put you back anything from 1200 to 4000 for a small big/small enough for a Nano
Clowns are +- 600 for both
How much LR is in it ? and what light is it ?

And remember a small tank is not as easy as a big one and with Marines it's tricky situation coz if the power goes out the fish & Coral are in danger. There is a guy on MASA selling a 4ft + sump + TS2 skimmer (1700 new) for R 1,500. Compare it to that.

 

Also find out what flow pumps this thing has coz the can get pretty costly if U need to buy new ones.

 

not much live rock. this guy wants R2000 for his setup. considering the guy on MASA has a 4ft for that price this seems ridiculously expensive. but then again i dont have the space for a 4ft tank. and my lps has the boyu for R2800. now im confused lol.. what to do

 

This little guy should do the trick and they go for 1300. Just make sure the Tank has space for it

 

2K is not bad if it has proper lights and filter.
And if it's good LR cured Fiji for one it could cost you 180/kg
If it's un-cured LR from where ever it's about 60 to 100/kg
Most ppl that buy them upgrade the lights eventually and the stands could go for about R 800ea.

-Lights
-Filter type
-LR type
-Aggregate
-What kind of Clowns are they
-what are the other fish ?
-Does he have cleaning crew?

 

This guy is giving his 4ft away for almost nothing.
I would sell that for:
DT 1000
Sump 500
Stand 500
Skimmer 900 if still in working condition.

 

This little guy would be over kill on 90L but they come very highly recommended @ R 2100 ish ea and you will never give it to much to deal with in a 90L Boyu.

 

@fiza - If you look at the cost of the 2nd hand Boyu and consider that you still need to buy a skimmer, it's probably more worth it to by a new one with a skimmer for around R3000

That one's not bad @Lowflyer abit smaller than the one i can get though. this one is a 90L. and he just told me he might want to swop me for some stuff i have laying around that i dont even use.. if he does that then i'll take it

A 90ℓ marine tank?? :blink:

Imagine living your life without ever going out your house... I'd feel too bad to cramp fish like that, especially marines, unless it were just temporary for a month or two, but that's just me. :worried:

 

Small tanks crash easily. You have to do a minimum of 10% weekly water change. On my 26g JBJ nano cube, I was doing 25lts a week. Water change with RO mixed with salt. Good quality salt is expensive. And there are the lights. Boyu lights are shit and you will need to mod more.

It is fantastic but a real ball ache to maintain

 

I would only buy a boyu as a marine hospital tank

They make very good fresh water tanks
