Salt in Discus Tanks?

It looks like we have four issues here:

1. Can you add salt to a discus tank? Answer: Yes you can and it will help relieve stress on the kidneys of the fish.

2. You mention that you want to treat your fish in a QT tank with salt? Why? You will not treat any disease in discus by just treating them with salt.

3. You can treat fish with iodated salt, no problem, but it is preferable to grow baby brine shrimp with salt that is iodine free as the hatch rate will be greater with non-iodated salt. You will however get a significant hatch with iodated salt.

4. Salt at low levels as high as a heaped tablespoon per 100 litres is not detrimental for most plants either. Some however do not like salt and then you should not use it. In principle salt is not present in most of the water in which freshwater plants grow and this is definitely not beneficial to the plants.
