    Hi guys,

Ro water has been discussed on this forum I just want to ask a question.

I understand that RO can lower my currently 8.2 PH. I would like to go this route.

    Here are my plans:

Do 15% water change over a month each week.
Add Seachem Neutral Regulator to the RO water to create a Phosphate buffer.
And thus lowering the PH gradually. Tap water coming out is 8.5+, measured today! Almost purple or my TertaPond test kit!

If I understand what I read this should work, any criticism why I shouldn't do this would be much appreciated!

After the Initial lowering what should I do to maintain the PH? Discus buffer and Neutral regulator? I dont really want to use peat because of the tannin.

Just want to maintain a PH of 7-7.5 if possible!

    Kind Regards
    Krefie

Just to add, Seachem Neutral Regulator only takes my water to about 7.8-8.2 PH, it has never been lower than that, any other products you guys might reccomend?

@Krefie: I don't know I messed around with my PH using RO water and buffers but all I ended up doing was having sick fish all over the place because I could not maintain the level of the PH I wanted. Since then I stopped worrying about my PH my tank has been healthier and my fish not so sick. Whatever water you have your fish will adapt too it.

All I can tell you is that you are going to spend a fortune on all theses chemicals, AND you will drive yourself mad in the process. How many litres of water are you dealing with?
What fish do you have and do you suspect your fish stressing in the higher pH maybe, if not then leave well alone - your fish will adapt. I only worry now about ammonia nitrate & nitrite. My Discus are happy at pH 8ish and even tho it is not ideal for Discus - they are very healthy and happy. Better than messing with pH every day. I mix 50% RO water and 50% filtered municipal water and that's it.

OK thanks both of you, you changed my mind, I'm just stressing about my catfish, they are very active, and not shy at all, I thought maybe they were stressing. All Parameters are good, measured yesterday!
