Ripples in the sand.

Just a crazy thought. My sand keeps going flat after a day or 2 till I dig it up again to get the unsettled look in it. It got me thinking, Ive always loved the ripples in the sand a river makes. Has anyone ever tried using a power head to get this same affect?

 

You can use a powerhead to get the same effect, but it will not stay like that forever... If you use a powerhead, your substrate will "pool" in a corner of your tank eventually... Let it go flat, and enjoy your plants and fish, not the sand.

Or, use different shaped rocks to create slopes and different looks in your substrate...

 

Get sand sifters like malawis... they make any tank bottom look unsettled. I have a sand wall on the one side of the tank already and they are not done apparently :blink:. Honestly I think a powerhead would work for the look you want but it is going to wash away the sand around it to achieve that (or so I think)

Ive got a tank with Mbuna and i love watching a few minutes after i fed them how they sift the sand as well. Leaves a nice "pattern" on the substrate.:bigsmile:
