removing white residue from Old tank

Hi All

I bought a second hand 4 foot tank which im busy renovating, i am finding it impossible to get rid of the white residue lines that have built up over time. is there any magic product i can use to get rid off it?

A vinegar and water solution should remove the limescale build up.

 

Yes I agree sure vinegar and water would do the trick!

 

I used vinegar just this weekend to remove the lime buildup on a small tank
careful about scrubbing too hard with ur sponge

 

thank you, is this just normal white vinegar i throw in my salad dressing or is it specialised vinegar?
and also does it come off quick or should i be patient and scrub for a while?

 

Vinegar works. What I use is Sera pH-minus. Just wear thick gloves

@Ammar - I would soak it for a day in the vinegar (any kind works fine) - maybe not balsamic tho - would be to expensive

I cleaned a load of items with just leaving it in vinegar for a day or two when I lived in the uk. It was cheaper than the lime scale stuff they sold and it is not as harsh to your hands or tank. After cleaning it, rinse very well and let it dry out in the sun.

There is a reason why they used to clean windows with it in the olden days It makes glass shine (you can even clean shower heads over night with it. (I tie a baggie filled with vinegar and a bit of water over our shower heads and leave it over night and then turn the shower on a min or 2 before taking my shower.

 

Use the "expensive" vinegar. You get a 750ml for R7-00 or a 750ml for R20-00. There's a big diff in quality. And don't use your sink scrubbers that you use for pots and pans. It will seriously scratch your aquarium glass.
