Refilling a Co2 Canister

Hi all,

I am new to owning a planted tank. Its all going well, about 6 months into it. I was using the disposable Co2 kits from Oyster and then last month I upgraded and purchased a 5KG canister (second hand) that works a charm until I realised I need to fill it. I have been phoning around and driving around asking who can fill it but I am having no joy :notrust:.

Can someone please tell me where I can fill it? I live in Amanzimtoti / KZN.

I dont know Toti so can't comment on that...but trim and replant your stems (they'll grow bushier)

Have you tried making your own system for times like this when you can't have it refilled?

I saw a great DIY one for VERY CHEAP on youtube yesterday. Just search DIY CO2 generator.

It basically uses:
2 1liter plastic bottles or 3 500ml bottles.
some yeast (the type you make bread and vetkoek with)
some sugar.
Airline tubing.

 

Ive seen a video on it before.... a idea but I cant believe there is no where to fill the canister up. I keep your suggestion as a backup.

Do paint shops do them ? I only do lo tech plants ^^

 

As far as i know. Paintball shops can only do up to 2kg bottles.
But glad you found a place. Always good to have a full spare around just in case

 

Take it to an airrifle store, PCP Air Rifles are refilled woth Co2. Try Safari & Outdoor if there is one in your area

 

Hi. The Durban guys generally refill at chubb alarm in Umgeni Road.
