Questions on Puffers

Hi Guys

I have a few questions regarding Spotted Puffers (Tetraodon nigroviridis)

Have been doing research for a while now but can't manage to find any stable information.

pH? Some websites say around 7. Some say around 8 and adding crushed coral.
Tank Size? Again different opnions. Can't remember the exact sizes. 20l-70l i think
Plants? Have read they eat plants? But require a high planted tank?

Another thing i want to know is if i want to keep a male and female, does that mean about 1 male and 3 females?
Very confused about the nets story. Rather try my luck here with members who have/is keeping them.

This will be for my 2ft (Standard).

the best advice i can give you if you canot find any STABLE and PROVEN information is to just keep your pH neutral and then experiment with them with some cheap plants, and work it out for yourself. Most of the information on the internet is simply one mans opinion or what has worked for him.

 

Have about 5 puffers and they dont eat plants (i have never seen them do it)
They are very messy eater so reckon u need something that will do some cleaning up at the bottom
but they are very interesting creatures and my favorite . Although they do like to bite the hand if its in the tank.

 

What size tank you have them in?

Don't really want a bottom feeder. Maybe hand fed? Seen videos of then jumping for the food
Bite hands you say....maybe now people will stop playing with my tanks....lol

 

You have a green spotted puffer, they are brackish fish.They can be kept in freshwater, but then you will need to add crush coral to keep your PH high.(Brackish species can be acclimated to hard, alkaline fresh water.) You MUST feed them snails(preferably black snails-the pest kind). If they do not get snails to eat their teeth grows to long for them to eat and they will die. They are also fin nippers, so be careful what you put in with them.

the tank is about 160l, but im sure they can be kept in tanks alot smaller. had them with long finned slow fish and had no problem with them fin nipping.
