    Hi guys,

Does anyone use a pump for adding the new water to their tank during water changes?
I'm thinking of doing this, so just looking for general advice.

I would need to pump the water about 5 metres to a height of 2 metres. Hope that makes sense - the fresh water will be about 5 metres away from my tank, and my tank's top is about 2 metres off the ground.
I assume I just get a pump used in water features. Anyone know how powerful I'll need it to be?

    Thanks for your help!

I assume that the water you will be pumping is standing in a drum/ container of some sort?

Yeah - I'm put the pump into the bucket with the fresh water in it and then hopefully I'd be able to pump it into the tank.

I used to use a pump for water changes. I used to treat and ensure correct temperature in a 120L container and then pump using a pump rated for 3.5m height. Whichever pump you use, it should be rated to pump higher than 2m to ensure it can do the job.

I use a pump that I got at Builders warehouse and it works like dream My water is stored in a Jo Jo tank 500L. My tank is higher than yours off the ground probably 3m height. The pump I bought is a WATERHOUSE - WH 1200 and it is rated to pump 1200Lph at a height of 5m. Perfect solution made life very easy !!

I didn't realise pumps were so expensive. A 1200lph one area Builders is R700. Might just carry on doing my water changes by hand for now...

Hi Dash. I'm in Durham. It was the Builders in The Crescent (Umhlanga) that I checked.

I'm buying a resun B2000 it has 2000lph at a height of 2M and I'm getting it for R210 so I'm sure the lfs can sell you a return pump for cheaper than builders otherwise try buying online ;)
