Plants banned in the UK

Hi Reedfish,

SO, let us make a bit of a comparison here, because the common names used are often confused.

Brazilian pennywort, aka Hydrocotyle bonariensis, is banned for import into SA.

Water fern, which could be a number of things, but I think is Azolla filicoides, is banned for import into SA as a matter of fact it is declared aquatic weed.

Parrots feather is Myriophyllum aquaticum, is banned for import into SA.

Water primrose is Ludwigia and is banned for import into SA.

Australian swamp stonecrop is Crassula helmsii and is banned for import into SA.

So there you have it, we are one ahead of the UK for a change!

Kind regards,

Dirk

When I worked in the UK we had a major problem with invasive plants. Giant hogweed gives you nasty blisters that recur whenever you go in the sun for years. Japanese knotweed was so destructive it can grow through reinforced concrete! Nasty stuff.
