Painting aquarium

Hi all i want to paint my tanks and would like to know what kind of paint i should use and if there are any negative effect to the fish if i paint the tanks. Thanks in advance

 

You planning on painting the inside or outside?

Well either way - enamel on the outside should be fine - well almost anything that is not water soluble - most things are non-toxic once they have dried / cured.

Cons: You might get bored with a painted tank, it could reduce the resell value should you need to get rid of it.

Thanks f-fish i use the tanks to raise my angel and blue ram fry want to paint the outside bottom back and sides because it is much easier to do the daily cleaning of the tanks with no reflection on the bottom.

 

lol - first valid and sound reason I have heard for painting .. suppose might also make the fish feel more secure. I seem to recall seeing breeding tanks in a blue / dark blue ..

 

Yes dark blue, that is the colour i was thinking about...

especially the blue rams, after about 3 weeks old the get very "twitshy" when you get near the tank so hopefully it will help with that...

 

I painted the rear (outside) of my tank black using rubberized bitumen (the one they use for ponds). Works well. Just think think through it well because it is a long term commitment.

Don't paint it. Rather go to a sign shop and buy dark blue vinyl sticker. Much easier to remove if you don't want it there.

 

You can also use Craft paint which is non toxic and won't strip your silicon. It comes in different shades of blue. You can find it at builders or art shops.

 

paint with roof paint, it can be easily peeled of if you wanted to.

 

Hi all I bought enamel this morning after my chat with f-fish and painted 1 of the tanks. Thanks f-fish, MZ89, Heinrichvh, Spider and Singularity for you're feedback!!

 

You can remove the enamel with a razorblade. Will take 10 minutes or so, depending on the size of tank.

 

Yip, i removed the enamel because it looked really bad and got blue background from my lfs, i've "sticked"the blue background to the sides, back and bottom with olive oil and i must admit it looks really good. I will post pics as soon as i get a new camera, my old one broke!!!
