Hi,does any of the marine guys know who own marine tanks and have a sump filter where to buy a plastic non return valve from. If the power goes off then the water flowing back will flood my living room.

Setup your sump line properly. Then you won't need a non return valve

    This is a fikled thingh
    I have a 70 litre DIY sump
The fist problem I had is when the power went off the return used to syphon back into the sump,So I needed to lift the return above the water
Second problem the pump was to strong and drained my sump and overflowed the tank leaving a heck off a mess so I installed a plastic inline 20mm tap.the I build a overflow containing in the back I used the lenght of the tank with two pieces off glass using the top 40mm of the tank
This works so far it is going to take trial and error for you to hit the balance

Looking back if I spent a bit more money and buy a inline filter and two irrigation electric valves running of a transformer that will shut as soon as the power fails
    Would have been the ticket

What balance ?? what size pvc did you use for the overflow plumbing ? how many litre per hour does your pump push ? if it is 3000lph or less there should not really be any issues. What does the overflow look like ??

This is a very simple thing, no need for non return valves Drill a HOLE (maybe a ball valve on the overflow line to retrict flow to get the overflow quiet), but there shouldnt be a any retriction on the return line from the sump normally.

This. As long as the return line as on the same level or higher as the drain line, the pump is strong enough to supply the head height and you have some sort of durso, a sump setup should be painless to setup

Why would you build a slimline overflow for a FW tank?! You guys are seriously over thinking this whole thing.

what i meant to say was:

not in a slim line overflow, and it works much better than a durso ie completely silent, so i dont see why throtling a normal overflow wouldnt work the same.

And because a slimline looks super neat and clean, if you are going to do something might aswell do it the best you can (thats how i am anyway).
and not a c2c overflow, something like this for fw, third one from left.

Here is a link to types of overflows i think all the tasa members should have a look at, maybe it will make more sense.

Got a 3000 Gallon per hour pump
50 mm drain and 20mm inlet
Bulkhead running the length of the rear of the tank as a surface skimmer

Why because Oscars is messy over filtering is a must ,But alas I am keeping Malawis
And this is a moot point
IMO if you cannot do a bit of DIY don't get in this game.

Same goes for just about every other Hobby in the world

    Nuff said

bulkhead is that plastic round fitting you use to connect the pvc pipe to the tank, how does this run the lenght of the tank.

Sorry, sounded kind of blunt i guess, was just asking, everyone get the "lingo" wrong once in a while, was just trying to find out what exactly you were talking about.
