i dont think you should worry Mark. i have a few of those and they tend to do that. Unless if he is acting up in a different way than he used to. Like Dewald the same happened to me and i have tried to google a few forums and it seems like its happens a lot.

"normal" (not blackmoor) goldfish are black when they are fry and turns orange/yellow as they age.

even black moors sometimes turn a bit gold (They do have the "gold" gene in there somewhere.
like Dewald-Coetzer said His one turned from black to orange

Back to topic @mark d what are your water parameters. Could be recovery from ammonia burns in your tank or from the LFS.

No idea what parameters are, Its not a black gold fish though, Its a white goldfish with a red head, but the marks are gone now.
@Dewald Coetzer sorry about that but its not what I wanted to hear, My fish are the only thing that keeps me going and actually found the info interesting. So if I offended you,I am greatly sorry and ask for your apology.

    Regards
    MD

Just keep monitoring for signs of deterioration in the fin structure..... I have had a black fungussy type of (well) .... fungus lining the edges of my Orandos' fins before, which is later followed by bloody veins also visible in the "see-through" part of the fin..... at which stage the fin will start splintering...... (which I miraculously cured by feeding smaller amounts every 3rd day and changing 20% water every day for a week).

If no other symptoms occur within the next 3 or 4 days..... it is probably just a natural colour change taking place as suggested above and as is found in most all GF..... referering to Goldfish and not GF... Girlfriend (lol).....
