Is this a aquarium moss or just some type of moss growing on rocks?

Couldn't your friend just tell you where he found it? But it looks like that you have enough to grow it submerged and emersed. :)

That is normal riverbed moss... find it all along indigenous forests and riverbed where the the environmental is very wet. grows on rocks, ground and wood... dont think this will be right for aquariums as it will "drown"

I think I can see some aquatic mosses there, perhaps some fissidens yes but also some other ones as well. I would give these a try, but you must remember that these are mosses from cool forest streams and they will not be able to cope with high tropical aquarium temperatures, I reckon the low twenty's will be the highest temps they will cope with. I want to say that I am cultivating a number of indigenous mosses very successfully in this way.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

Now that Marius is a good question. Maybe post it on APSA, sure the guys there will be able to identify it for you. I tried to place it but its a tricky one because of the "moss fingers" being so short..

En ek praat nou nie hier bo van jou vingers nie lol
