    Hi Guys

I recently purchased a male Betta for my 15l planted tank (2 weeks in the running). He is in there with a few guppies. This week I noticed a bubble nest probably 4-5cm long by 2cm wide. I cant see any reason for a bubbles to form as there is no airstones or anything else that would create bubbles in there. The filter is a hang on back with an even flow. There were no bussbles bfore he came along.

What do you guys think it is? Is there a likelihood that he is in a 'breeding' mode? I wil try and take a pic tonite.

    Regards
    Rajen

All male betta's will blow bubble nests. I think it just indicates he is happy and healthy. It is very normal for them to do that, mine does it every day.

Its easy to keep them happy - good food - I feed mine every second day since they can overeat easily and its not healthy for them since they are prone to swimbladder infections. I also feed live daphnia every now and then, a couple of bloodworms, flakes and so forth but I rotate it so he doesnt dare become fussy.

The can be trained to jump for the food - my one boy jumps to get his blood worms from my fingers. Otherwise they just need very clean water and some attention every now and then.

He might go after the guppies tails tho especially if he gets bored so make sure there is hiding places in the tank for them.

Wyvren is right. It looks like ur fish is happy! Male bettas also do build bubble nests for breeding (they put the fertilised eggs in the nest until the fry become free swimming) . After a while you can get a female betta and breed them but u must be careful cause if u leave her in there too long he will kill her. He will look after the fry until they are able to live on their own. I know u didnt ask how to breed them but i thought I'd just include some info on the subject
