how many lights do you need in a 3ft tank and what colours ,at the pet shop today i saw that they only have light fittings for one tube they dnt have double lights

And what colours are both good for fish and plants aswell

A 20 or 25 watt light is sufficient for a normal fish tank. If you really want to grow plants then you can add another one. That is the AQUAGLO or FLORAGLO white or pink light. If you want to keep malawis then you can use a white and a blue light to bring out the fish colours and also to create more algae.

Busy building a cabinant and want to make provision for some lights now not 100% sure what colour and how many light to fit in my tank want to grow plants aswell .regards to fish was thinking of getting guppies ,mollies and maybe swords ,so how many lights and what colours to get .pls help

 

You don't say what plants you want to grow, but from MLE: you can source tubes (and ballasts) from electrical stores far cheaper than your LPS. for my 3ft, (lowwww tech!!!) I first made white perspex panels to fit the inside of the hood, make it reflective SOMEHOW! Ask the LES to order you one 18W 6500K (daylight) and one 20W ballast for a start? You can always upgrade? I have the following growing nicely with that: amazon sword, mosses & ferns, vallis's & crypts. All entry level plants to be sure, but with imagination, you can work with them. (my tube cost less than R20).

@Tracey not sure what plants to get ,will have to see what lps has.but would like to grow some moss and something that will grow like grass
