How difficult is it to build your own tank?
I want a big one. i.e 200cm x 80cm x 80cm. Sump filter and Open top if possible, so glass thickness will play a big Role when It comes to not having Braces at the top.

Any idea on material to be used?

i know the pros use those clamps to makesure things line up well.. but from what ive seen.... i'd rather get the pros to build it for me.. lots of ppl encounter major problems like leaks etc.. at the end the effort well out weighs the cost..it may be more expensive to build it urself as well..

anyways, if u decide to build ur own one, just make sure the silicone dries / cures properly b4 u test it..

Braceless tank that height is going to be an absolute nightmare to build yourself. Rather get it done by the pros, and make sure they use thick enough glass, I think quite a few places will try get by with glass thinner than it should be.

Someone posted a thread from another overseas forum a few weeks ago about a guy trying to build his own braceless tank. It was a very very sad read. He must have rebuilt the tank about 6 times at least, and tried 3 or 4 different types of silicone.

if you go wth 1.8 x 80 x 80 - 12mm glass (WITH BRACES will be ok) and believe me a tank that size you need at least 4 people to carry it....

So if you go bigger I think you would have to build it in the place it would stand Forever - no expert just from my experience
and I don't think you could get away with no braces

From what I've heard, Fish Fantasy World out in Muldersdrift is a good bet, but that's quite a distance from Annlin and I don't know if they deliver.
I think the key with a tank this size is to get the tank builder to test fill the tank for at least 7 days before you take delivery, that way the issues should be sorted out there before you get it home.
