some of you might remember i lost most of my fish a few weeks ago.

i have since decided to sell my 5 ft tank and upgrade to another 6 ft which i managed to purchase cheap of gumtree .

this is my problem though, the one 6ft i have decided to make strickly malawis and other african cichlids. one of the fish that did Survive was a 10cm flowerhorn , and he was in this tank . my mistake was i introduced the malawies into the tank after the flowerhorn was there for a while and by yesterday i dicovered that he was eating some of smaller malawies , research shows that they get very territirial especially if they were there first . which makes sense as he stayed with malwies before without any problems but was intorduced after the malwies .

the second tank i bought came with fish , which are a 40cm redtailcatfish , a 30cm common pleco . two 15cm jaguar cichlids and three oscars between 15 and twenty cm .

this is my question, what are my choices with my flower horn , do i need to give him away or get another tank for him , really am queit attached to him because had him from very small and his colour is only just starting to show . and if another tank is my only option then so be it .

p.s would rather get rid of the red tail catfish if i have to .

You will have to get rid of the Redtail as none of your tanks are no where near big enough for him...and he will very soon be big enough to eat all of his current tank mates... the Flowerhorn will be fine with the other S.American cichlids - move him across.

thanks , well the previous owner said that he has not grown much over the last year or so , but that probably due to the tank size and limted feeding , but based on what i read here, i decided he had to go the minute i saw him in that tank . i will either try and swop him at my pet shop or maybe someone here on the forum is interested in him .

dude...my redtail cat eventually outgrew my 8000l tropical pond...bugger must have been 1,4m long.... keeping them in to small a space will stunt growth, but not stop it... Please just make sure you do find him a proper home...

i know, personally i would never purchase one on my own , but becasue he came as pat of the deal i had no choice, have already spoken to my pet shop to see if they will swop him with something different for me .just of of curiousity what would that redtail cat be worth if you had to buy it form a pet shop.
