either will do well floating around the tank , but you lose a lot of light ..
you can also plant them into the gravel

Will they stay in gravel without roots.

LFS must not be allowed to sell plants with out proper knowledge and info on plants.

Yep its Hornwort, aka spawning grass, foxtail, coon tail etc. It is a floating plant, grows like mad, you can anchor it in gravel merely by pushing it in with your finger, but it doesn't grow roots so it will stay there until something pulls it from the gravel.
Useful to have if you have live bearers e.g. guppies, platy's etc as the fry can hide in it, as mentioned above it will block some light.
Fish such as silver dollars also feed on it.
    I hear you on LFS...
Najas grass is something different, also fine in texture

In my experience there are a lot of LFS that don't know / care about the plants they sell. They should not be allowed to sell non-aquatic plants and all plants should be labeled at the source and sold that way. As we keep buying them I guess they will just keep selling them. Unfortunately I am one of those that so many plants look so alike I can't tell one from another and rely on LFS to steer me in the right direction. (Not the best I know).

@Just4me, I know the feeling, lots are pretty dodgy on fish advise as well. Had a discussion with one re mislabeled fish that grow to over a meter long and weigh in excess of 40kg. He defended the wrong labeling, although on my next visit it was corrected. The other excuse was that the fish grow slowly and can thus be kept in a home aquarium?!
we all have many stories like this

Some of them is just there for the money and that is a sad story i would love to have my own fish store and work with fish all day. while some just sit at counter doesn't even great you only take your money.

Agree about the fish to and then they end up in our water ways. Short of us voting with our cash I am not sure there is and easy answer. Unfortunately judging by the ways we as consumers operate it will be no go. We like to gather and moan about our lot and then go out and pay we will not give up our wants. :( (Not even to gain in the long term).

We have a bunch of this plant growing in my sons guppy/platty tank (Was sold to us as spawning grass). We managed to get it wedged in the back corner using some wood and decorations. It is still 'free' floating but stays in the back corner, every now and then we transfer some to his other tanks but will have to eventually have to return some to a LFS... I also hate the fact that the guys working in most stores can't give you the proper names for plants, I mean if you at least know what the plant is called a quick look-up on your smartphone will give you all the info you need...

Agree with Caz it also helps if you know whether it is a foreground, mid or back plant.
