    Hi everyone,

I'm very new to keeping fish. Was never really interested until now. Brother in law gave me his small aquarium with 3 Red-eyed Tetras, and that pretty much just stood around for a few months.

Over the past few weeks I've added some plastic plants, 4 Zebra Danio's(?), 4 Tiger Barbs & a Red-finned Shark. Suddenly there's some life & activity, and I'm addicted!

I'm looking to build a new tank (if it's more economical than to buy - still need to check prices) and really get a good eco-system going :)

    Martin

Thanks. I'm sure my MTS could get out of hand if I have enough space for multiple tanks :)

Thank you. I saw your thread on your nano tank ... interesting :) Are you only into moss, or also other plants?

I have moved away from moss a bit even though I still grow some. I like to keep to plants that grow very easy with a simple lighting system and no to very little dosing. I believe one can create very good looking scapes with these.

My tanks have changed scapes quite a bit over the last few months and new tanks were also aquired. You should find quite a few threads. I must actually put them all in my profile to find easier.

What is the common thinking for tanks with scapes such as you create & fish. Is it fairly easy to keep living plants & fish together, or does one have to be extremely careful with what is combined?

    Hi

Some fish will destroy plants, malawis etc will dig and destroy everything.\
    Some fish eat plants.

Most of the smaller fish like tetras are fine with plants but there ate loads of fish that like plants. Plants actually helps a lot in terms of water quility and the fish love it and in my opinion do better in tanks that mimic their natural enviroment.
You would have to do something really drastic to kill fish while caring for plants.

Most people here started somewhere with plastic plants and after seeing a planted tank quickly change their tanks.

    Hi dragon8,

Thank you. I am all steamed up, yes! I've got my first "real" tank all planned out already! My wife already thinks I'm a little nuts, and I haven't even told her of my plans to have more than 1 tank :) So far I've only lost 1 Tiger Barb...was a bit of a runt though. The rest are all quite happy so far :)
