The sizes vary quite a lot depending on the make.

@oupoot - If you are looking for small heaters you can look at the Sicce Scuba heaters. They are italian made, pricey and excellent in keeping their temperature IMO. I am running a 25w in my 12l and I have no problem keeping stable temperatures.

Have a look at the Dophin heaters if size is the issue. 300W roughly 30cm. But they fluctuate. There's the downside.. HTH Don't even think of Jager 300W. Way too big for a sump.

@oupoot , The Dophins fluctuate up to 4deg either way. But they are cheap enough to buy two heaters if you have the "too low" problem. Seeing that you're going to use it in the sump you'll probably need to turn it up a bit to compensate for the piping length of travel etc.

Just curious.. How long is the sump?

Far as I know sicce scuba makes the smallest and thinnest heaters in comparison by wattage. Had their 300w in my tank and was hardly noticible. Also have a 25w in my nano. Their products are made in Italy and known to be good quality. I replaced my 300w with a Jaeger tho. Expect to pay round R250 for 300w at reasonable lfs.
