Fishy Pedicure

Had a interesting chat with my fiance last nite about small fish that is used in spa's to eat the dead skin of peoples hands and feet.

Apparently they are very efficient and the treatment is fairly expensive, something like R650 for 15 minutes and the spas have to import these fish at very high cost...so I thought well this might be a very good business opportunity to breed these little chaps so I can sell them at a much cheaper rate to the spa's.

Do you guys think this is feasible?

 

I somehow doubt this will ever catch on but maybe that's just me. Breed them and see what happens, your wife can feed them every day

 

Heard about this before. Very interesting but on the other hand a little cruel.
Dirty feet for breakfast, lunch and supper, fingers for dessert!

 

i actually had the pleasure of trying this when i was in thailand, it takes some getting used too at first but after a while that 15 mins feels like 5 and you just dont want to leave. it greatly improves circulation in your feet and you feel refreshed. i dont know the price of the "fish doctors" as they were called but i paid like 300 bucks for a full back of house tour and aquirium visit with a boat ride at the SIAM Aquarium.

 

I guess it costs so much because I'm sure inevitably that some fish would get squashed??

Does seem a little cruel to me? Wonder what animal rights would make of something like this? Not that I'm gonna tell em!

lol @ Troyfish...I agree its probably not the best food for them but atleast they get to taste a variety of different feet sure they all taste different.

Linga would you ever go back for such a treatment? and how well did these little chaps do their job?

I agree it might be a bit cruel but sure they feed them properly when their services is not needed??

This reminds me of the fish up in Baine's kloof... there's a nice hiking trail which you can take which leads to a lovely pool with a waterfall etc. In one of the pools are thousands of little fish which come and peck off your skin if you sit still in the water.

I allowed them to peck around my feet untill I couldn't handle the ticklishness of it any longer.

i belive i would go back... and like all little fish they are very skittish so when setting in the tank, they swim away and come to you when you settle down. i think filteration needs to be really good as well the one i went to was like kind of a spa bath with all the jets etc, but set to very low and always keep the water circulating, not sure what filteration system the water was going through. but the water was very clear, well they do wash your feet before you step in.

Put a few piranhas in there This is really animal cruelty. It's fine if you "play" with your own fish putting your hand in the tank and let them get close. But not different people's feet. :sick:uke::sick:uke::sick:uke:

 

i saw a pair at a petshop here in elandsfontein

 

from what I recall from a trip there last year it is now banned as the goverment were concerned about cross contamanation from person to fish to person.not sure could be wrong .

I've heard of these. They use a sucking fish species apprently, something along the lines of Garra spp. I think.

 

lol it said the pair of fish in the tank for sale are these very fish we are talking about
