Hi I would like to know what cichlid this is

 

Very hard to tell. No colour and the patterns aren't clear.

 

The fish was bought as u see it, I was told by the pet shop it is a umbrella cichlid

 

Just had a quick check on the umbrella cichlid. It's an apistogramma. And does look like it. Very nice! Where did you get it from.

But it looks like it is still a juvenile. But should colour up nicely when mature.

Oh those last few pics, are those of your tank? Because you should remove the plants from the container and the glasswool. Especially the glasswool, it will damage the fishes gills.

 

Thanks, the one I have was said to be a female, looking for a male, and the wool is out : ), just making sure what I have is the right fish before I start looking for a male

 

Apistogramma Borellii

Looks like it and the common name you mention is the name used for this species... It is still small to say for sure its a female.

Yes it is an Apistogramma, but it's not the Borellii... This is commonly sold as the Umbrella but it is in fact a Steel Blue. I have owned a couple before, and even bred them at a time. Watch it as it settles in... They can be quite territorial and can also chase & harass some of your other fish, so keep an eye on it.
