fish at the joburg zoo

hey guys i was at joburg zoo the other day and found these two tanks, the first is supposed to have congo tetras and jewel cichlids, i only saw the tetras:wondering:, the second is supposed to have rainbow kribs, elephant noses and african butterfly fish, only the kribs were there :wondering: and one or two looked like very unhappy kribs, pale colouring and droopy fins. the first had a small patch of what i think is guppy grass but all in all i think they very poor examples of what the fishes natural habitat should be:blink1:. i do however love the rock back walls. i wish there was something we could do, it would be a wonderful way to educate the public on good fish keeping if only it were done properly, i have visions of a vast fish room with different biotopes and breeding programmes for threatened species, after all isnt that what zoos are supposedly for? education and preservation of species, me and my huge fishy plans hehe .

by the way in relation to this, the pta zoo has the biggest marine aquarium in land so would probably be worth a visit. im going to try make a plan for sometime in the next two weeks.
