    Good day

Will a hob filter like a aqua clear 70 be big enough for a 4ft tank?

It is a little expensive but worth every cent. The filter is a real high quality product

It is still cheaper than most canister filters that do the same amount of flow rate, and it is way easier to maintain.

But canister filters with the same flow rate can hold more filter media.....

Yes - but you need to place it on the short sides to get max flow in the tank - now the question is do you have bracing that will get in the way?
Should be between R800 - 1150 depending how old the stock is and the shop. The media compartment is huge for a HOB and you can add batting between two sponges to create a fine particle filter.

BTW if you are going HOB have a look here for some ideas on increasing its usefulness PIMP your HOB

sorry to go off topic, TASA should have a poke function u know for when someone has an answer for everything you can poke them.......in the ribs......ophou asseblief. Would be nice.

Was with Dash when he bought his aquaclear, outstanding HOB the media bucket is like a black hole...... huge. But no, not a cannister.

@f-fish: Agreed there is so much more you can do with a HOB than with a canister filter, for instance I made a moss covered slipway for mine which the moss happily grows in and the shrimp also seem to love it, don't ask me how they got there with all the flow:

I also had a planted HOB for a few months it was so effective at removing nutrients from my tank that it started out competing my tank plants so I had to remove it, but it would great for a tank were plants cannot be kept:

People don't realize just how much you can fit into one of these:
