Daylight vs white.

Hi all.

So I have a question that has been stumping me for a while. I want to get a small CFL for a 1ft tank that will aid plant growth.

Now I know that plants grow best under 6400K (What is the "K" and how is it worked?). There are so many brands of lights out there and this is what confuses me:
Some brands say "Warm White with a kelvin rating of 6400K" others "Warm Daylight with a kelvin 6400K"
What is what here? Some brands don't even state the Kelvin but simply "warm,cool,white,daylight" etc.

Could someone shed some light here please....punny...

warm white are normally in the 3000K range, cool white in the 4000K range, day light in the 6000K range and sky white in the 8000k range.

I have only seen CFL bulbs in either Warm White(2700K), Cool White(4000K) and Daylight(6400K).

Currently using a Eveready 15W CFL(bought at Spar) for my 1,5ft tank and the Hornwort in there is growing crazy.

Yeah, forgot to mention that it's an Eveready 15W Daylight(6400K) CFL. ush:

 

I find the everready to work rather nicely. They are the ones that I have been using too.

 

Some company's also state the rating in "LUMILUX" Seen it when I bought my T5's. If it states "K" it is indeed Kelvin rating. So you where spot on the name when describing the bulb rating. My tubes do not state the full rating. Mine states 50W/865. The "65" is the short for 6500K. This is how the Salesman described it. Had to wait 2 weeks for the bulbs. Osram tubes btw.

 

That makes life so much easier now. Don't have to bother getting "Flo-glo" tubes but jsut ones with the 65 now. Thanks very much for that!

 

what about Daylight LED 180 Lumen for plants ?

 

I will suggest for a cfl the phillips cool daylight. man my plants are growing fast on this cfl. it is a 18W phillips cool daylight in a 20L nano dosed with seachem comp and diy co2.
