Corner banding?

Hi guys

I'm not 100% sure if that is the right name so I will just explain the best I can.

I'm looking for the sticker like stuff that has wood like patterns.
You use it on cupboards, desks, shelves and now too on aquarium cabinets:blink1:!
Needs to be for the corners and the main base.

Hope you know what I am talking about now.
My question is where can I get that from? And roughly the price?

Also the correct name will be much appreciated as hardware stores don't like listening to my dumb explanations

I think your talking about laminate...

 

If I am understanding you correctly, you are looking for 'Worktop Edging strips'??

These are made of formica usually, and are glued onto the edge of the worktop that you have cut, to conceal the edge? They are available in different colours and patterns to match the relevant worktops?

Sound right or are you talking about something completely different?

If right, you should be able to get it from any kitchen supplier?

Also try Builders warehouse, Mica, Penny Pinchers, etc! Basically anywhere that sells work tops should have the stuff?

Its also know as laminate and Veneer, but I think most places will know it as Worktop edging strips.

Some people are really useless lol.

Going to wait till my stand is built before i go driving around looking for it.

 

Builder's warehouse have it as standard stock item. Go to the building counter and ask for laminate edging strips. It however cannot be bent. it cracks when it bends.

If Builder's do not have it, then the ice age is drawing near. Seriously... it's like going to wimpy and not being able to get a burger.

Yes. White is the most common. Then any other colour that will match all formica counter tops. There's probably over 100 colours in SA, but builder's will only carry the top 15 colours, or the colours to match their counter tops.

On a side note... it is possible that they have stopped carrying the full range, because all the counter tops now come with a few meters of the strip when you buy them, however they will carry the most common colours as standard.

 

If you are looking for formica edging strip, go to Chip Base or cupboard manufacturers.
P& Pay Hypermarket, however, have a very nice sticker type of material in wide rolls, that look like silver checkerboard. I don't know if they have it in different colors.

 

Wont be going with this stuff anymore, cant find anywhere.

Not sure if I mentioned this but I'm building a cabinet.
So will ply wood work? Varnished or painted?

Needs to protect against water damage (if any) and want it in a dark colour, possibly black.

Troyfish just look for a carpenter in your area. He will be able to help you or direct you to the best places to get this stuff.

O and plywood is useless if you ask me. Not even sure if the still make it.
