Convict fry

I randomly caught 8 Convicts from my outside pond and put them in a 3ft tank in the fishroom..... (for sale, as I do not want to catch from the ponds when selling)...... well.... on & off, these fish in the tank have been breeding, but it is very unlikely that any of the fry would survive in a 3ft with 8 adults swimming around and (frankly).... I did not want them to grow up in this tank, as I have about 200 of them in the pond where constant breeding is taking place, and some of the fry do survive and are also breeding.

Last week, (for some reason).... I decided to syphon off some of the fry out of the 3ft tank and rear them seperately...... here they are..... (with the 4 pairs currently in the 3ft.... there are 4 batches of fry, all about 4 days free swimming)..... I will let them be & do not expect any of them to get past 10/12 days.....

Convict Fry

Very cool, nice of you to post a photograph!

Hey @Cheetah ---> Cool photie, like the way the big guy in the middle of the group is "skeefing" you out...

Never underestimate the ability of a broody cichlid mother to protect her young....have had fry survive in the most crowded conditions some times due to a protective parent effort...

i'v always had a soft spot for convicts, they are absolute devils when they have fry but the way even the smallest of parents will take on fish much bigger than them is always endearing.
