I have been struggling with cloudy water in my 80l tank for months now. Have tried using water clarifiers (Nutrafin Bioclear) without any success.

On Saturday I did a 100% water changed and cleaned all the gravel but on Tuesday the tank water started getting cloudy again.

What can the issues be? I am not overstocked (I don't think) and I feed sparingly - 2 small pinches of flake food daily.

    Livestock - 2 x black mollies, 1 x platy, 2 x guppies, 2 x kribensis, 1 x angel, 1 x bicolor shark, 3 x neon tetras, and 1 x algae eater.

I am using a hang on filter f(Aquaclear 30 rated for 110 litres as filtration, gravel is std aquarium gravel, airstone, one live plant and then tank decorations (sunken ship, skull, and plant on rock - it is my kids tank so the kitscher the better for him)

    Any

    Hi palmerc,

Do you have any filter floss in your aquaclear30? it does help lots by removing all the small particles.

You can also get yourself 1 x internal filter with only filter floss in it polishes the water beyond clear.

Have you tried Seachem Clarity? This stuff is the best but you need something like filter floss so it can filter all the particles.

Also try and add a few more live plants, tanks just looks so much better if their are a few nice plants in the tank.

    HTH.

that will mean that you have effectively restarted the entire nitrogen cycle... you should never do a 100% wc. How did you clean the gravel?

And what media are you running in the hob?

The guys/girls here also told me that the filtration should be 5 times more an our of your size tank, which in case of 80 liters is 80x5=400liters/hour filter.
And filter floss with seachem clarity does wonders

Yeah you do need more filtration bud, sunsun has a nice internal filter for about R160 think it does 650liters per hour it has got 2 sections where you can add different media.

+1 @Javei filter floss with clarity does the best job, I used it myself once or twice.

+1 @tracyp you should not have cleaned your gravel, the 100% wc would not have harmed much as most of your bacteria grows in your gravel and in your filters.
