What kind of baby cichlids? Some cichlids grow to monster sizes.

If you want cichlids, look for Angelfish, Ramirezi, Apistogrammas, Keyholes, Dwarf Flag cichlids, Bolivian Rams or similar species. Don't go for malawi cichlids, central americal cichlids, or any other types of large cichlids.

They aren't available in SA as far as i know, also they are very aggressive and are bound to wipe out your whole tank.

    Get something semi-peacefull like kribs.

They are availible in SA but are very seldom availible. I would not put them in with your fish, they are agggressive.

Kribensis are very nice! I have one and my sister has Bolivian Rams. All great community fish for peacefull tanks and semi agressive tanks. They are pretty widely available. HTH

    @FabioCarvalo

Brichardi are readily available if you know me.
I'm actually breeding a Pulcher variant called Olivaceous which is in the Brichardi family - same fish really. I've got many more Lake Tanganyika cichlid species.

As suggested by @Sean J - African cichlids will destroy your existing fish. His suggestions of dwarf South American species are excellent - though it's my understanding that larger Angelfish eat Neons both in the wild and in tanks. Which species of barb do you have? Some are considered fin nippers and might terrorise smaller Angelfish. Go for one of the other options.

What size tank have you got running?

@DCWarHound @ROEKSTE - Dudes, Brichardi types (of which there are around 5 species and many more variants) are readily available, one or three Tanganyika species that pet shops actually know about (others being Frontosa (actually Gibberosa) and Tropheus (which is actually a genus consisting of 4 species and over 50 variants)).

Brichardi's come from completely different waters to the Tetras, mollies and other fish you're keeping. Also, they breed extremely easily, and get extremely territorial when breeding. They will attack any fish that gets too close.

Brichardi's come from the rift lakes, where the water is hard and tetras and barbs prefer softer water conditions.

If you really want them, you will need to get rid of your other fish before adding them to your tank, or you much choose tank mates that are compatible with what you've currently got.

Hi jack I have rosy barbs 1 male and 2 females. I love cichlids but I'm afraid to have 1 because can give me problems on the tank I have a 225 lt tank.

But I'm finishing my DIY 500lt tank soon

    Hi @FabioCarvalho

Your fears are well founded - most readily available cichlids are not compatible with your current livestock.

The Rams, Keyhole Cichlids, Apistogramma species and Dwarf flag cichlids as mentioned by Sean are about the only cichlids compatible with your existing fish.
You should add more rosy barbs to keep them happy (they are schooling fish), have at least 12 of them and the Neons if not more.

Cool re. the larger tank and welcome to the multiple tank syndrome sufferers club!

You've got some decisions to make on what you want to do with which tank - both tanks are capable of housing Malawi and Tanganyika cichlids, the larger the better for the territorial cichlids.
I don't suggest mixing cichlids from Lake Malawi and Lake Tanganyika either - only a few species can work together but it's usually detrimental one or the other.

Shout for more information on Tanganyika cichlids, always happy to help.

    Good advice.
Depending on the size of your tank, these cichlids are relatively well manerred.

don't think your selection will work. as the other guys have said, the water parameters are too different. and they are very aggressive if you are going for the african cichlids.

or either trade all those for a full tanganyika tank... those guys are awesome! :cheesy:
