So the above quote got me thinking. . . and guess what? I got 100% hatch in freshwater!

My theory for this actually working is really simple . . .

At the early stage of a brine shrimp's life . . it does not have fully developed organs . .some of the organs that the adults have in order to survive in salt water . . .

So if it does not have specialized organs for salt water? Why should it be hatched in it?

The last time I got about 60% hatch in salt water and this time 100% . .

Can anyone correct me or explain why it is possible for them to hatch in fresh water?

The moisture 'activates' the eggs, in a sense. The brine shrimp won't last long, though. Not nearly as long as in salt/brine water anyways.

I suppose how long they last doesn't really matter if you aren't feeding the shrimp or are feeing all the baby shrimp before they expire.

Well, thinking about it . .if they only live a few hours in FW . ..wont that make them more nutritious because they have not absorbed much of their yolk sack?

No, it will make them poisonous! Never feed dead animals to fish that haven't been frozen! once they begin to decompose, they could become toxic and do more harm than good! That's why they are hatched in salt water, they live longer.

well why not hatch them in fresh water and collect them using a torch in a dark room to "herd" them into the salt tank

The thing I noticed is . .they become paralyzed/or dead :D. . . 1 hour after completely hatching so unless you catch them as soon as they hatch . .then it's no use
