Blacklisted

I have heard that some aquatic plants, fish etc are blacklisted - what does this mean? And for what reason would they be blacklisted?

 

This means you need to educate yourself with the blacklist and beware of what you buy...

The reason why certain species are blacklisted, whether fauna or flora, is because they could post a threat as being invasive. This means that if these species should someway or another end up in our local water systems and streams it could take over and pose a threat to our local ecosystems and the local species could die off.

I am aware that, currently, there is a new blacklist being created. However, it isn't in effect yet (to my knowledge), and posting up the 'new' one may be a bit misinformative.

But I do agree - the lists are a little outdated. However those species were put on that list for a reason, and for now it'd be best to stick by it. Be careful as many species/genus names have changed over the past 40-odd years since it was created.

Then let's await the new one that is being generated.
I know the Prof had input with the list and also had contact with the officials whom generated the list. Maybe we could get an ETA on this from him?
