hey guys so can one get hold of aqua soils here at reasonable price? i would like to try it in my new setup. from my research it seems to be a good option for root plants and larged leafed plants. Any of the plant fundies want to weigh in on this?

    thanks B

Try aquaclay, I have yet to try it, but it seems promising... Got a bag for the new nano. At R130 a 10l bag, its pretty reasonable too...

I do not believe this product is available in SA at the moment. And the company that makes it does not ship to SA.

bugger isnt that always the way of it @Zoom. Are the Seachem fluorites and sand similar? i alwasy thought they were inert media...

ok kinda answered my own question. went to the seachem website but i'm still unsure the sand or fluorite is the way to go, and i dont need a whole bag. my my my so many choices to make lol

@windfire- Flourite is mainly a iron rich substrate and not nearly as good as ADA A.S.

thanks @Rudi both your posts are very informative. the worm castings bit is very interesting. i suppose you cant use it on its own i'll be looking into it aswell. could you mix it with any gravel, such as my cruched tigers eye gravel?

@Zoom ok good to know, so it would be good if you were planting stuff that had red foliage right?

You definitely need to cap it with gravel or sand.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as a perfect substrate. All have their pros and cons.
Just do some research before you spend allot of money on something you may not need.

In the right hand corner, one can change the page to english. I dont think its supposed to be a nutrient rich media, rather a media that provides good ion-exchange and enriches over time. Might possibly provide some iron though(?)
