    Good Afternoon Everyone

I would like to find out what type of canister filter is good for a 4ft tank?
Would a 700L/H be fine or should it be more?

I have never used a canister filter before so i really dont know much about them.

My personal preference is a 1200ltr/h for a 4 foot

    the more the better
4 foot is 250 ltr so try for minimum of 1000ltr per hour 1500ltr better

The tank is maybe about 300L but cant go too expensive on a canister.

I see the Boyu 280 has the following specs:
    For aquariums 200 - 300 L
    Flow Rate : 1000 L / H

The Dophin C-1000 has the following specs according to their website:
    Flow Rate : 1650 L / H

So i take it the better option would be to take the Dophin C-1000?

Another option is the Sun Sun Canister Filter with UV Lamp (HW-303B):
    Flow Rate : 1400 L / H

Aquaclear 110. Not canister but really good flow and media.

If only wanting a canister sun sun is good

Does anyone know of where i can find these canisters at decent prices. The Dophin i can get for about R1700 and the Sun Sun i can get for about R1600.
If you know of any other online shops or places around Pretoria that might have a good price please let me know.

Sunsun will probably only be online. There is one shop in CT that sometimes has them

The flow rates are calculated without filter media and height , take that into consideration. Go a lot bigger then you need. I have a tetra ex1200 plus on an 180l aquarium for instance.

Thanks for the info. Im thinking of getting the Dophin C-1000 which has a flow rate of 1650L/H so im sure (taking the filter media into account) that it will still be good for a 300L tank. Or any other opinions about this? I just dont want to be spending over R2000 for a canister, im willing to go to R1700 for the Dophin or lower if possible but really dont want to go higher than that.

Why not get a 3ft sump for it? You add another 80L to water volume and it will cost you half of what a canister will.

its sad because aliexpress sells the sun sun you are looking for for a decent price of about R700, but the cost of shipping is very high making it more expensive than buying locally. shipping is over $100!!!

Just my experience...I purchased 2 sun suns, 2000l some time ago
I also bought at the time a Dophin 1600 second hand from another member
After a few months, the sun sun 2000l flow, was less than the dophin 1600 which i had bought second hand
They were brilliant when new but soon the flow decreased.. maybe my bad luck

I agree with going a sbig as you can or even a sump
Also just make sure you can get spares locally for sun sun, if i remember correctly,, you cant
Dophin spares are easy to get locally

    Thanks for all the input.

@Pierré Schoonraad i will look at a sump but have never used one before so also know nothing about how everything comes together and all the plumbing and stuff like that.

@Drab808 Yup i have also looked on aliexpress and you are correct, shipping is a killer. Whenever i look to buy from there i always select the free shipping option. I have bought twice from aliexpress and i have had no problems.

@MariaS Yeah i am a bit skeptical of buying the sun sun as like you said, parts will be hard to get. But i am really considering the Dophin C-1000.

The Dophin is the same filter as a Penn Plax Cascade canister filter.
They are identical, apart from the colour of the canister itself.
One reason I am not fond of sump filters is that they can be noisy, much more than a good canister filter.
I don't know of anyone that used a sump filter with a tank in a bedroom, for the simple reason that they are noisier than a canister.
