    Hi all,

Where do Angel fish generally lay their eggs. I have a few Angels in a planted tank with some rocks and one fish of mine had a very round little tummy right inbetween the dorsal fins. After seeing this fish do some lip locking with another Angel I read that this can mean they are a mating pair or fighting for dominance in the tank. So I went to check if they are ok and found my fat Angel fish's tummy is suddenly gone but I cant find eggs any where if she was even pregnant in the first place. Is it possoible for the other fish to eat the eggs over night? I have clown loach's, a pleco, corys and a gourami.

Yes, unfortunately that is VERY likely to have happened. Anything but the corys could have eaten them, and in fact, if the corys are large enough and the Angel eggs are small enough, they could have snacked on them too.

Hi Charlie, angels are normaly vertical spawners, so anything from aleaf heater tank glass or driftwood, ive had a pait that even spawned on the tank bottom. In terms of can the other fish eat the eggs yes most def, the angels sometimes also eats their own eggs.

The lip locking could be a sighn of sexual matureness, or just a dominance thing for pecking orders. If they are a pair they will protect an area and chase other fish away, they wil also clean a spot that they will want to lay their eggs on, there should also be some flaring @ each other if they r indeed a pair.

Thanks guys, sadly im sure this is the case. I have quite a few fish and some really fat bronze cories so im sure they would eat them before I would have a chance to even notice the eggs.

Angels do protect their eggs, but pleco's do not really care about the parents, they adore caviar. Sad but true, had all my days with my pleco/angels combo regarding breeding, had to move the pleco, and the spawning continued.

Angels will lay their eggs on vertical surfaces.
Mine lay on the bogwood, filter pipes etc.

As has been said above, if you have them in a community tank, the eggs don't stand a chance unfortunately. You need a dedicated set up if you want to hatch some fry, and have them grow to maturity.
