    Hi There guys and girls,

Need your advise on the below:

    * Not sure whether i can mention names or not but has anyone bought a tank from Petmasters?
If so, have you had any problems with it?
    * Is 6mm thick glass safe enough for the ffg tank size (1200mm x 500mm x 500mm - 300L). I will be adding braces on the tank.

Was initially going to build the tank but then the price of the glass seems a little too high for me.

Any other suggestions as to where i can get a tank (above dimensions) at a reasonable price in JHB area, feel free to mention it.

PS: I will also consider 2nd hand tanks.

Thanks in advance for the advise.

Your safety factor with 6mm glass is ONLY 1.79 !!!!!

You need to have a factor of 2.5 when you add euro bracing and kick plates.

    So NOOOOOOOOOOO for 6mm glass

Send me an email to moolis@petstopsa.co.za and I will help you.

Just for interest sake, the GENERAL maximum hight for glass aquariums 1.8 meter long with all the bracing is:
    6mm actual water level = 425mm Max
    8mm actual water level = 510mm Max
    10mm actual water level = 590mm Max
    12mm actual water level = 680mm Max
    15mm actual water level = 790mm Max
    19mm actual water level = 950mm Max

Remember this is just generalisation PLEASE - Get a professional do calculate the glass thickness for your actual aquarium. ( shorter aquariums might be a bit higher after calculations)

    300L water is very heavy.
Don't think 6mm will take that kind of pressure.
    I wouldn't go for less than 10mm

Very cool site, I often use them. Just a pity they don't accommodate the calculator for bracing. Would be nice if it could tell you what bracing to use at the different safety factors.
