    Hi there fellow members.

I can ge a 2m tank from my gf's friend but don't know if its worth it. The bottom glass is cracked and one of the side ones aswell. So i want to know will it be easier to just buy 2 x glass pieces for it and fix the tank up (and what is going rate for glass of 12mm a meter) or just wait till i can scoop up another one that is 100% at a bargain?

Get some prices from some glass suppliers and weigh out the costs. Shouldn't be too hectic.

Free 2m tank is a LOT cheaper than a bargain 2m tank. I'm sure even with glass replacement it'll work out one hell of a lot cheaper.

Tank repairs are rewarding too and not that difficult. I recently was given 2 x 2m tanks, both broken, and managed to strip the one to repair the other and had enough leftover glass to constuct a 0.975 x 0.5 x 0.6 high rimless tank. Drilled and toying with the idea of setting this up as a reef tank.

Only cost were blades, silicone and time.

    And NO plasters!!

I'd go for a the free one!! As long as the other panes is not scratched and still good to use.

You are going to need a few helping hands to build the tank again but should be cheaper than a bargain like SalmonAfrica said ;-)

The cracked bottom you can only add another 8mm or 10 mm glass on top of that one with silicon, would save efford on dismanteling. The side one should be taken out and replaced, but still way less efford that doing the whole thing over.
