+1 Wickets! If I am raising livebearers (I usually leave them to contend with my community tanks as nature intended) - I use a black plastic storage "bin" with a cheap sponge filter and masses of java moss beneath a window - works a charm!

Sounds like we all have some great things to look forward to! I find this hobby to be rather impulsive... When i get an idea in my head, there is no stopping me :) However delays are inevitable!

@Wickets what i really wanted to do is get some beautiful specimens and play around and see what i can achieve as show guppies, but the problem i am finding is not really the tank space. its more that i am not able to keep my guppies alive. im not sure what im doing wrong but 90% of the deaths i have had in my tanks are guppies. i've lost 1 or two tetras and a chinese algae eater due to stupidity but with the guppies i have tried so hard with maintenance and other and still no luck. i do agree that you can never have enough tanks, i might reconsider that but not too sure at the momment.

@Ammar: I cannot make any suggestions on your guppy deaths, other that to check for velvet (like a fine golden dust on the body), or ammonia in the water. You can also put some guppies in the garden. You'll be amazed at how much healthier they are outside in greenish water. Just be sure to bring them back in when it starts getting cold.
@tracyp: I use a lot of black plastic tubs in the garden, mostly to grow bog plants and mosquito larvae. You just have to convince the wife that you are actually catching the mosquitoes and not breeding them.
