    Hello,

Curious to know how many heaters & how many watt heaters you have on your 1000L - 1500L tank?

or any other advice would also be welcome!

    Thanks,

I think it is 1 watt for every litre of water. You can use a Jager 300 watt for 1000 litres of water.

Rather look ay the Ultra Zap Pond heaters(Koi Products) - You get a 1kw and a 2kw model....willl cost you WAY less than buying a bunch of aquarium heaters....

If you can do a bit of DIY - fit a geyser heater.... All of these are very costly though - especialy in winter when you need them most....
A mate of mine heats his entire 150 000liter Fish house's water with a wood burning "Donkie" - minimal wood keeps it at a toasty 26 Degrees even in our Highveld winters....

We have one on our holiday farm in the Karoo......serious heat!

I use one 300W normal heater in my 1200L and a second one for back-up in the winter. But our winter are't that cold.

As Happy Fish says, I use a Jager 300W for my 1000L (at 29C for my Discus) - I have a cheapie as back up set at 28C in case the Jager fails (and we have cold winters here). So far, so good - this is our second winter with the Discus.

    Hi Guys,

I had a look at the Jager heater its a very impressive heater. My only Q is at almost 50cm long can this heater be kept at an angle? as it would go into my sump!

    Thanks,

    Some like it HOT!

    Knowing min/max Ambient temperature
How well tank is insulated (sides, back..and at night especially even the front can be thermally "lagged")
    Location related to draughts etc
all impact final heater type and wattage...
Planning with above in mind,Obviously REDUCES electricity costs significantly !

I have found even pond type heaters to chomp more power though, and in smaller..umm big tanks, or INDOOR tropical ponds of 2000-6000L Heating Rods worked better.
Pond type inline heaters have caused disasters in a few instances, but I warned... expecting trouble..they are more suited to higher circulation and/or larger volume water.
They require separate plumbng, and powered water flow for best results( another pump..)
Some have gotten away with it, though never designed nor intended for aquarium use really.

@jwalker To help answer the original , and subsequent questions:
I use 2*300W Jager for around 1900L....holds well at 29C
    4*300W on ~4000L, at 27C

Of course you can submerge the heater safely.it is rated as such!
The angle is fine, for sumps, or tanks..where most of my marine and reef clients and friends place equipment anyway.
ENSURE good circulation of the heated water!!!

@azurekoi Those tilapia aren't Mules, just heated up by a 'donkie" hey???

@JungleAquatics had them for just under R500 each (cheapest that I found in JHB - if you know someone in Germany, you may get them a little cheaper).
