I am also not 100% sure of what you mean exactly ? Filter media impact ? the bacteria doent live in the water colomn.
Maybe also just put the fitting in some hot water and make sure it is clean, also make sure when you attach it that goes on "straight".
by doing 100% water changes everyday almost eliminates the need for any kind of filtration, these tanks will usually run on 1 or 2 small sponge...
Most breeders do 100% water change per day for discus (these are relatively small tanks with a large number of fish) Obviously for home aquarium...
The only problem is that these fittings use the O-rings the to seal and not the thread.

Zoom activated carbon wont release anything back into the water. It will just get "full" and then it becomes an expensive bio media.
